A Shift in Fishing Light Attractor Results in Larger Catches, Doubled Harvest

Jakarta, July 19, 2025/Indonesia Media – An Indonesian marine equipment manufacturer sees an importance of shifting from Light-emitting diode (LED) petromax lamp, metal-halide (MH) lamp to specific fishing lamps to attract fish closer to the fishing vessel. Stronger fishing lights lead to larger catches and there has been a competition that has gradually increased the power of these lights. “shoal of fish in the ocean will always be arranged automatically under intense light, and harvest will be doubled,” said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of manufacturer, Imanuel Masman.

Using light is a common way to trap fish in the fishery industry, and yet there is a shift in the industry. Vessel operators started to use high tech fishing light attractor, in which the intensity and distribution of light doubled. The fishing light attractor is a fishing aid which employs lights attached to structure above water to attract both fish and members of their food chain to specific areas in order to harvest them. It has been known for a long time that a light attracts fish, shrimp and insects at night. Note that the best color for a light attractor should be green or blue – the space colors of fish and members of their food chain. Moreover, a perfect fishing light would have the following properties; high intensity, emit its light in a color similar to the fishes’ space (blue or green), and be powered by a portable electrical supply. Fishing light attractor) is not only common and indispensable on the fishing vessels, but stationary lift nets as well. “We are a manufacturer, and have seen an increase (of sale volumes) in fishing vessels more than stationary lift nets. The full moon phase can indeed influence fish behavior, causing them to scatter or migrate. At full dark moon phase, vessel and stationary lift nets operators badly need light attractor. So vessels undertake a range of activities, carrying out fishing activities,” said Imanuel. (LS/IM)
